On any given Saturday, I step out for what I call a little bip and a bop.
Usually it looks like this: I drink too many cups of coffee, clock 20k steps, and peter out on some park bench before I have to haul it back home on the subway. Some days all I do is walk. On others I get a nice lunch and duck into a movie, maybe pop into a couple shops or mooch about a museum. What matters most isn’t what I end up doing; the whole appeal is that the day is left open-ended. I can follow my whims from place to place, stopping when I’m tired, fueling up with another cappuccino when I want to keep going. It’s one of my favorite ways to spend an afternoon.
This weekly letter is written in the spirit of that. There will be restaurant recommendations, essays on urban life, and musings on the small moments that make New York and all the other cities I love so special. All of this will be given with the same freewheeling energy of a day spent bipping and bopping around town. From time to time, I’ll also step inside to talk about writing and reading.
Thanks so much for being here.
